10x better question than “How was school today?”

I finally cracked how to get my seven-year-old to tell me something about his school day. “How was school today?” turns out to be as efficient a question as cutting a steak with a butter knife. Instead, I asked him things like “Describe to me what happened once you disappeared through the school door this morning? What did the classroom look like? Who was sitting next to you?” I got a deluge of stories."
